Toilet Making Odd Noises in Malvern, PA

Toilet Making Odd Noises

A customer called to tell us that her toilet was making a whining-type sound when the tank filled back up after flushing. Usually, when this type of problem takes place, that means a valve has partially closed. However, there is also a chance that the ballcock assembly needs to be either cleaned or replaced.

The ballcock assembly controls the amount of water that fills the tank, while the flush valve controls the flow of water from the tank to the bowl. After you flush, a lever raises the chain that is attached to the flapper, which sends water into the bowl through the valve seat. The stopper drops down when the tank is empty and the float ball engages the ballcock assembly so that new water can move through the fill tube of the tank. If the ballcock is clogged or damaged, that will result in a whining noise.

The other cause could be that the flow to the refill valve has been restricted. Make sure the shut-off valve is completely open and look at the ballcock assembly’s washers. If they have mineral deposits or are damaged, this will be the cause of the water flow restriction.

Call Feehan Plumbing & Heating today and we can take care of any odd noises that your toilet may be making.
