The three most common shower problems
We encounter several different types of shower problems at Feehan Plumbing & Heating. Here are some of the most common, along with steps you may be able to take to solve the issue.
- Shower pan leak – The shower pan, which is designed to stop leaks from occurring, is located beneath your floor tiles. However, the pan itself can leak over time, leading to rot in your sub-flooring. If you think you may have a leak, plug the drain and fill your shower with about an inch of water. Mark the water line and wait a few minutes. If the water goes down and you see moisture under the shower enclosure, call a plumber because your pan is more than likely leaking.
- Shower head clogs – If your shower head becomes clogged with mineral deposits, it won’t spray properly. This is usually caused by hard water. Soak the shower head overnight in vinegar. If this doesn’t work, then you’ll probably need a new one.
- Fluctuations in temperature – If you are taking a shower and you get scalded when a toilet is flushed, then you should have a plumber install a pressure-balancing valve for your shower lines.
