Drain Cleaning in Upper Darby, PA

|

A clean drain is a happy drain

Many people might assume that a kitchen sink used to clean dishes would somehow keep itself clean, but that is not the case. Dirty dishes with food all going down the drain mixed with whatever was left over from the day before make for a pretty dirty kitchen drain.

So if you start to smell something a little funky coming from the kitchen – and you know it’s not your cooking – you can try these few things to deodorize your drain. First, though, you’ll want to make sure nothing is clogging up the drain because then the remedies won’t be able to work.

Once you’ve cleared any clogs:

  1. Run hot water in the drain: Hot means really hot. You can even boil water first and then pour it down the drain, but it has to be scalding because it’s the first step in killing the smelly bacteria that’s down there. Let the water run through for about 15 seconds.
  2. Put in some baking soda: Throw in about a teaspoon of baking soda and keep pouring the hot water in for 15 more seconds.
  3. If baking soda doesn’t kill the smell…. Try using any of these: Table vinegar, bleach, or lemon juice. Pour a cup down the drain, let sit for a half hour, and then rinse out with hot water.

If the baking soda or other cleaning solutions don’t work, or you just want professional help, call Feehan Plumbing & Heating today and we will clean your drains for you.
